Making beaded jewelry is one of those hobbies that doesnt cost the earth (well it can if you let it) you can start small and build up your supplies and tools and it gives you great satisfaction and a sense of achievement. When other people compliment you on your jewlery and ask where you bought it … there’s no greater satisfaction than saying ”I made it myself”. Often than not this is the way most people start off there own beaded jewelry business. Others start asking if you can make them a piece, or say its their friends birthday and they want something special… be careful here because if you dont want a full time job making beaded jewelry its best to say you only make items for your own personal use. However, if you do want to make a little extra cash or start up your own business this is a great way to start. Be your own model, get friends and family to wear some items too !

Spend the day searching for free beaded jewelry patterns on the internet and you’ll come across a whole array of patterns. You’ll notice that most sites offer some free beaded jewelry patterns and also sell them individually or in book. However, you need to be aware that there are many different types of “beading”

There’s making jewelry with beads and string, there’s beads and wire, bead knitting, bead crochet, bead looming and more , so its very easy to get confused.

Most people new to beading start off with simply threading a few beads on string or nylon and making a bracelet or perhaps some very basic earrings.

Here’s one of my most popular free bead patterns below for you to try.

Memory wire Bracelet

Skill level- Beginner

Allow 30 Mins

What you will need

12 inch length of memory wire

Assorted Beads:

8 medium green beads

5 Large Green Beads

3 small green beads

15 medium pink beads

3 large pink beads

3 small pink beads

4 star shaped beads (or anything similar)

Head pin

Round Nose pliers

Strong Cutters (to cut memory wire)

Instructions

Take the 12 inches of memory wire turning one end back on itself making a small loop with your round nose pliers.

Thread the beads onto the wire in a pattern of various colours and sizes remembering to double up your pink medium beads until full.

Bend the wire round twice in a circle. Thread three beads onto a head pin, cut to required length and make a loop.

Attach this to one end of the bracelet.

Making jewelry is taking the world by storm, whether you chose to do this for pleasure or profit or both.

What can start out as an enjoyable hobby can be turned into a very lucrative career indeed. Offering a perfect opportunity for stay at home moms who want to work hours to fit their family and with clever use of the internet sell without ever having to speak to a customer !

“ Earn a living from what you love ! “

“ What could be better than waking up each morning feeling happy because you make a very good income from your hobby. No rush hour traffic, No Sunday night blues, No 9 to 5 drudgery. If your idea of heaven is beading most of the day then you are about to find out how to boost your bank balance plus have loads of fun .

The first thought in most beaders minds is but where do I start ? Well this report will guide you through all the options, you pick and choose what suits you best !

Getting Started

Firstly, sit down and think about how much effort, money and time you have available to put into your business.

You can start on a shoestring and build it up over time or you can go the whole hog and obtain funding from investors etc. Obviously the less riskier route is to start small and grow, this will take longer. If this is what you want to do full time and earn a living straight away then you are going to have to put in time, energy and money. The results will be quicker and you can reap the rewards sooner.

There are a number of ways to sell your work. All require effort to obtain results. But one of the most important things to remember when selling your jewelry is to sell a range of jewelry to show off your designs to best effect.
Customers like to be offered a selection, as it is only within a selection does the customer get the illusion of choice. This is a fact that has been well known and used by the cosmetic industry for years. For example, when you choose a lipstick or nail polish you will be able to pick a color from an entire range, thus giving you an illusion of choice. However only a handful of the colors within the selection will be true top sellers, the others are manufactured to give the illusion of choice. The cosmetic industry knows that if they only offered one pink, one red, and one orange shade of lipstick (even if these colors represented 80% of their sales) the customer would feel that range had not offered them much of a selection and would instead turn to another brand.
Offer your customers a choice – sales of silver colored jewelry will usually outsell gold colored jewelry by 4 to 1. But by offering your customers a choice you will increase your sales and you will also cater for those who prefer gold tones. Display your jewelry in its full range but always make larger quantities of your top sellers and replace those items as they sell within your display.
Know your product.
It is important to appear knowledgeable about your product. If your jewelry is made from Amber or Czech glass then play up the properties of the gem , especially if it has any healing/ soothing/ inspiring qualities etc. For example Rose Quartz magnifies creativity and imagination and provides emotional balance. Amethyst is relaxing and calming, pearls can heal and help focus the mind and sooth irritable feelings. Do some research if you don’t know much on this subject.” Google” your gems.
Sales Techniques
It is important to talk to your customers without them feeling pressured. Highlight the qualities of your jewelry – the things that make your designs special. In professional selling this is called the Unique Selling Point or USP.
Concentrate on what is known as the feature benefits. For example pointing out your works individuality and non-mass produced nature is a feature; the benefit of this feature is that your jewelry makes the customer feel special and unique. They are unlikely to come across anyone else wearing a similar design and therefore the Jewelry makes a statement about individuality. Everyone likes to feel special.”
(excerpt taken from “ make a profit from selling your jewelry” by K Faulkner)
